poor but sexy

I am still sick, and Berlin is still dirty. I'm really missing Munich right now, but I've booked a flight to Madrid for Thanksgiving weekend to see my friends who I met in Tandem. It'll be like having a bit of Munich in Madrid.

I don't have a lot of pictures, but I went to the DDR museum today. I'm planning on starting my research for my thesis there, but it was incredibly crowded today. I'm going to try and go on a day when it's less crowded so I can really see everything. There were a lot of school groups there today, so a lot of pushing and yelling and poking at things.

The internet connection at this cafe is unfortunately too slow for me to upload pictures, but I'll find somewhere else and do it soon. Tschuss!

Goodbye Munich

Today is my last day in Munich, and it's mostly been spent packing and cleaning my room. I'm SO tired today, and pretty burnt out from Oktoberfest. My flight to Berlin is at 8:35pm, and a cab is coming to get me at 6:00. So I have an hour to chill out, a much needed hour.

Prague was beautiful, I have a lot of pictures from there that I'll post as soon as I get a chance. This past week has really been one of the most fun weeks in my life thus far, something that I will always remember. The Bavarians are all very hospitable and kind and have made me feel welcome to Munich and Oktoberfest. I'm very very sad to leave here, it's become a second home to me.

Aber, ich liebe Munchen. Und ich werde bald zurück sein, sehr bald. Hoffentlich bleiben!!

Hamburger

Hamburg was absolutely beautiful. It's a port town, so we arrived and went straight to look at the harbor. It was gorgeous. I didn't realize how much I missed being by a body of water, I guess I kind of take it for granted in Seattle. Friday night we went bar hopping in the Reeperbahn, which was a LOT of fun. These are the only pictures I have from that night:

The first thing we did was go to a Miniature Museum. It was cool, but kind of tourist trap-y. Here's a miniature music festival in "Sweden":

After the Miniature museum we (we being me and my CHID friend Janet) ate lunch and then went over to St. Nikolai cathedral. It used to be a church and cathedral, but it was bombed during WWII and so only the cathedral remains. You can take an elevator up to the top for a fantastic view of Hamburg, which we did.

All of the information inside of the cathedral on the bombings was VERY PC. None of it blamed the US or RAF (who were the ones who bombed St. Nikolai) but instead turned the blame to the Nazis/Hitler for triggering the events. It was all very interesting.

After St. Nikolai we went to the Beatles Museum, which was probably my favorite thing we did all weekend.

I really loved Hamburg. I'll definitely be going back.

Deutsches Museum/auf wiedersehen for now

I went to the Deutsches Muesum after class today. It was pretty cool, kind of a technology/innovations museum. Fun for a while, but not really my thing. Next time I'll go to an art museum or something, those are more up my alley. I have pictures, but my camera is charging right now so I'll post them another time.

I'm headed off to Hamburg for the weekend tomorrow, and I'm not bringing my computer with me so I won't be updating the blog until I get back, probably am Montag.

Auf wiedersehen!

Praha Spezial

It has been a while since I've updated, and for that I am sorry. I have been sehr busy, but in a good way. My Deutsch Sprachkurs is going very well, and my German is getting better every day. Last weekend I went to Salzburg. I walked around, saw Mozart's home, went into a fortress, saw a bunch of places they filmed The Sound of Music, and ate the ORIGINAL Sachertorte. Here's some pictures:

Last Sunday I went to Neuschwanstein, a castle built by Ludwig the II of Bavaria. It was never finished as he died of "mysterious circumstances." We got to see the 10 finished rooms, but we weren't allowed to take pictures inside. Here's the outside:

After we saw the castle we hiked through the gorge below, where we saw beautiful waterfalls like this one:

It was a really nice day, so people were swimming and the hike was lovely.

Yesterday I went to the Olympiaparke with people from my language classes. We went up into the tower in the middle of the park, the Olympiaturm, and saw a beautiful view of Munich. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera, but I did have my iPhone. This is the Olympiastadium from above:

Today I bought a train ticket to Prague for next weekend........... and this weekend I go to Hamburg. Sehr gut!!

German Doctors

Ach. So I have an eye infection... I went to a German eye doctor today, which was an interesting experience. She said it was similar to pink eye but not actually pink eye since I don't have stuff coming out of my eye? I don't know. I have antibiotics and am told that I can't wear my contacts for a week. Oh well.

After class yesterday about twenty people from Tandem went to the Seehaus beer garden in the Englischer Garten, a really famous park in Munich. We were there for about four hours, talking and drinking beer. It was a lot of fun, and we enjoyed what appears to be the last day of sun for a while. The weather forecast says rain here for the rest of the week, so I'm glad I got to be out and about yesterday.

Last night I went to Marienplatz with some guys from Tandem. We sat at the base of the Rathaus and drank beers and talked and people watched. It was a lot of fun... I haven't been taking pictures because I keep forgetting, but I'll try and take some more soon. I'm still very tired, and since I'm sick I need to rest if I'm going to be up for going to Salzburg this weekend. Which I must! The hills are alive!!
